He has successively served as the head of teaching research section in the piano department of the middle school of the Central Conservatory of Music. He started his early musical training from his mother-Professor Sui Wenju, later with Professor Zhu Gongyi, Li Huili. He enrolled at the Central Conservatory of Music in 1983 and then studied with Professor Pan Yiming, Yang Jun and graduated from the piano department with distinguished score. In 2004, he graduated from the Chinese National Academy of Arts.
During his twenty-year teaching career, many pianists has been cultivated and fostered and they arouse a widespread attention both nationally and internationally. Many students of him have enrolled into renowned conservatories and won the highest scholarship, including The Juilliard School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, Yale University, Liszt School of Music Weimar, Hochschule fuer Musik "HannsEisler" Berlin. In recent years, Zhang Jin’s students have won awards at the International Competition for Young Pianists, “A Step Towards Mastery” (St. Petersburg, Russia), the 8th International Vladimir Krainev Young Pianists Competition, the 1st Villa-Lobos International Piano Competition, the 6th Hamamatsu International Piano Competition, the 10th Ettlingen International Competition for Young Pianists, the 7th Horowitz International Piano Competition for Young Pianists in Ukraine, the Paris Invitational Piano Competition for Young Pianists in 2007, the 11th UNISA International Piano Competition in South Africa, the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, the Oberlin International Piano Competition, the Minnesota E-Piano International Competition in 2008, the 5th Moscow Frerenc Liszt International Piano Competition, the International Piano Competition in the Royal Northern College of Music, the 8th Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Poland, the 6th and 8th Tchaikovsky International Competition for Young Musicians, the 3rd CCTV Piano and Violin Competition, and many others. 301 of them won the awards and 113 of them won the gold prize.
His consistent diligent work style has been highly praised by the schools and society. He has been assigned as "Young and Middle-aged Outstanding Contribution Award" and also the 4th Yang Xunlan Musical Education Award. In 2004, he has been conferred as Ou Yongxi Artistic Education of Excellent Teacher Award by the State Ministry of Culture. In 2006, he has been awarded as Bao Gang Excellent Education Award, and the Excellent Guide Teacher Award of the 7th Ukraine Holloway International Young Pianists Competition. In 2011, he has been awarded as the star teacher of vocational education among Beijing vocational colleges. He has been awarded twice as Huang Liyuan Excellent Teacher Award.
In recent years, while totally devoted into the teaching career, he has also been invited to be on the jury panel for numerous competitions and given master class at numerous music festivals, including 2009 Cleveland International Piano Competition, 33rd Japan PTNA Piano Competition, the Paris Piano Competition for Young Pianists, Weimar Liszt International Youth Piano Competition, 5th China Chopin International Youth Piano Competition, the CCTV Piano and Violin Competition in 2011 and other piano competitions. He was invited to be the judge for 13th Eastman Young Artists International Piano Competition in July, 2012. He held master classes and individual tutoring in 75th Tanglewood Music Festival, Boston Tanglewood University Young Artist International Piano Competition. He has been invited to give master classes and lectures in numerous conservatories such as Mount Royal University, Liszt School of Music Weimar, Stanislaw Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdansk, The Ohio State University, Florida State University, Oregon State University, Texas Christian University, which is highly praised by the industry.
Zhang Jin directed the 5th Chopin International Piano Competition, Xinghai National Piano Competition and the Cadenza National Piano Competition. In addition to the above-mentioned activities, he has co-authored music books and recorded CDs and DVDs. To honor his contribution to China’s piano education, he was awarded and given honorable titles. His achievements were largely reported by State mediums and his name entered the Contemporary Chinese Artists and World Cultural Celebrities. His outstanding musical career has been published and reported on People's Daily (overseas edition), Music Life, Music Weekly, Piano Artistry, Little Performer, Little Musician, China Today (English and French edition), which arouses wide compliments. His name has been admitted into The Famous Figures of The Contemporary Arts Circles in China and World Cultural Celebrity of Dictionary.
